How to get to Warszawa Centralna, Warsaw's main station: tram, bus, metro and night buses

Correct as of , checked

In short

  • Trams stop by the station in two places: on Al. Jerozolimskie (7, 9, 22, 24, 25) and on al. Jana Pawła II (10, 11, 17, 19, 33).
  • The nearest metro station is Centrum on line M1, about 400 m from the station.
  • SKM and Koleje Mazowieckie trains on the cross-city line also stop at Warszawa Śródmieście, right next to the main station.
  • At night the Dw. Centralny stops are the hub of the N buses: on weekdays they leave from about 23:15 to 4:45, usually at :15 and :45.
  • A ZTM zone 1 ticket is all you need: the 75-minute one costs 4.40 PLN, reduced 2.20 PLN.

Warszawa Centralna, Warsaw's main railway station, stands where Al. Jerozolimskie meets al. Jana Pawła II, right in the middle of the city. More than a dozen day lines serve it, and at night almost every N bus comes through. The public transport stop is simply called Dw. Centralny (short for Dworzec Centralny, Central Station), though in practice it is more than a dozen separate stops spread around the building.

Line numbers and times in this guide come from the ZTM timetable version of 16 October 2026, the same one the Gdzie Jest Kanar app uses.

Trams on Al. Jerozolimskie run along the avenue, while those on al. Jana Pawła II run north and south. Not sure which stop your line leaves from? Check the stop number in the timetable: 07 and 08 are on Al. Jerozolimskie, 09 and 10 on al. Jana Pawła II.

Metro: Centrum, not a station under the hall

There is no metro station under Warszawa Centralna. The closest one is Centrum on line M1, about 400 m to the east, by the Rotunda. For line M2, change at Świętokrzyska, one stop further north.

Day buses

More than a dozen bus lines stop at the station, among them 117, 127, 128, 131, 158, 159, 160, 174, 175 and the express lines 504, 507, 517, 520, 521 and 525. Some of them, such as 131, 160, 504, 507, 520 and 525, terminate here, so you board at the start of the route.

Line 175 runs via Dw. Centralny to Chopin Airport. The train to the airport is quicker, and we cover it in Chopin Airport to Warsaw city centre.

At night: the N-bus hub

After 23:00 the Dw. Centralny stops become Warsaw's main night hub. On weekdays N buses leave from about 23:15 to 4:45, almost always at :15 and :45, so a change between night lines usually takes just a few minutes. Most N lines start or end here, including N21, N31, N44, N62 and N83.

Which ticket

The station is in zone 1. To get here from elsewhere in the city, a 75-minute ZTM ticket for 4.40 PLN (2.20 PLN reduced) does the job, or a 20-minute one for 3.40 PLN if you are only going a few stops. For a whole day of sightseeing there is the 24-hour zone 1 pass for 15 PLN. Full price list: Warsaw public transport tickets.

You can buy a ticket in an app such as mPay, SkyCash, moBilet or zBiletem. An app ticket still has to be validated: scan the QR code on the sticker by the door, or at the metro gates. Bought but not validated means not valid.

Long-distance train tickets are another matter. PKP Intercity machines are in the main hall and on the gallery level, and Koleje Mazowieckie machines stand by the bus terminus. The InfoDworzec desk is open daily from 7:00 to 21:00.

Inspections and the penalty fare

Riding without a ticket in Warsaw costs 266 PLN, and travelling on a reduced fare without the document that entitles you to it costs 196 PLN. Pay the inspector on the spot and the amount drops to 159.60 PLN; pay within 7 days and it is 186.20 PLN. Validating a ticket once the check has started does not count. Details and appeals: Warsaw ticket inspection and fine.
